As one of its core functions, and since its inception, IARC has been holding courses globally to contribute to lifelong learning to improve theoretical and practical skills of cancer investigators, with emphasis on researchers from LMICs.
In 2020-2021, with 37 courses and webinars targeting targeting individuals and institutions in LMICs, IARC has contributed to the learning of around 2700 researchers and health professionals , Most courses are associated with collaborative research projects, where IARC is transferring skills needed to conduct the projects and to enable the subsequent implementation of the research findings in the countries concerned.
CONTRIBUTION TO LIFE LONG LEARNING
During 2020-2022, 16 cancer screening programme managers from African countries participated in the Cancer Screening in Five Continents (CanScreen5) training programme, organized as an online course and an in-person training session. CanScreen5 is a project of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and partner institutions to improve the quality and impact of cancer screening globally. In this video, course participants describe the challenges of focusing on cancer prevention during the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of the CanScreen5 training, and how they plan to disseminate their new knowledge in their countries.
