Early Career Scientists

Are you a student or a postdoctoral scientist? Would you like to join the IARC community?

The Agency welcomes close to 200 students and postdoctoral scientists each year (around 100 at any point in time), supported by project funds from IARC Groups or through the IARC Postdoctoral Fellowship programme.

IARC offers a supportive research environment, in which individuals are valued, encouraged, and supported. Opportunities for formal and informal training in scientific and complementary subjects are available either through the scientific project or in dedicated training sessions.

Early Career Scientists at IARC have access to a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines, and can develop a diverse set of skills, transferable to other scientific areas, thus allowing a wide career choice. Disciplines covered are: epidemiology (including genetic and molecular epidemiology), biostatistics, bioinformatics, and areas related to the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, including molecular and cell biology, molecular genetics, epigenetics, and molecular pathology. There is an emphasis on interdisciplinary projects. Early Career Scientists also benefit from IARC’s expertise in coordinating research between countries and organizations; its independent role as an international organization facilitates this activity.

The IARC Alumni Group was created in 2011 within the LinkedIn® social network, with the purpose of creating a community of people who have worked at IARC in the past, promoting informal discussion and keeping the members informed of activities and opportunities at the Agency.
